You can consider it as a simple web-based tool for process mapping but with extra capabilities.

It's easy to create your first process map with iPB as long as you know business for which you want to draw a map and you are proficient with using a computer, and Internet. No need to learn many different BPM symbols and draw lines between them. All you need is to create boxes to represent steps in your process and move them around.

What is more, the end-users can run an application based on your map without you designing any electronic forms. iPB provides a default form for each step where the end-users can (if they are willing to) register any events and reflections that concern each step creating a step journal. Only when the end-users are satisfied with your map and want to have more complex forms, you will need to learn more, i.e. how to design forms, and how to define business rules.
