How does a typical IT-puzzle look like?

Many software consulting companies use a picture of a puzzle to promote their products and services. A typical picture looks like a neatly arranged puzzle with a hole in it, as in the picture to the left. The company promises that with their products/services you can quickly create a missing piece.

Does it correspond to the reality? Not in my book, I believe that an IT-puzzle more likely looks like a picture on the right: some pieces here and there, mismatches, and a lot of empty space filled with eXcel sheets, MS word templates, and email communication.
